WOODCOTE Sunday side started their season with a convincing 96 runs win at home against SONNING.

Skippered by Johnny Clark in the absence of Jonny Aldridge, the home side batted first but lost wickets regularly. At 56-4 things did not look promising but a century partnership between Mark Robertson and Steve Henderson, with some big hitting from both, turned the match around, and a quick-fire unbeaten 45 from Mike Stroker saw the total reach 255.

Sonning never looked like chasing down the target, especially after Zaf Akram took three early wickets with some penetrating bowling. Bridges made a half-century with some big hits but Jaimee Jose picked up two wickets in a tight spell and Mark Robertson chipping in with two more, one of which was a running catch by Brouard, who then also bowled with rhythm and accuracy at the end of the innings.
