GORING hosted CHECKENDON in a friendly match on Sunday, just 24 hours after the two sides had met in the league.

Checkendon opened the batting and skipper Manpreet Singh led by example, scoring 118 as Checkendon totted up a commanding 187-7. Singh’s innings came to an end when Adam Ellis took a running, diving catch in the deep. For Goring, Peter Slade, who took his 400th wicket for the club the previous Sunday, added three more victims to his impressive tally.

Chasing 188 Andy Steele hit 100 not out to post consecutive Sunday centuries. However, this was not enough as Goring fell 11 runs short with Checkendon claiming the overall bragging rights from the local derby weekend.
