HURLEY triumphed in their preliminary round of the Chilterns League Knockout Cup against HOLYPORT at Shepherds Lane on Monday.
Ross Brown won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first. Openers Will Sennett and Phil Davies plundered 11 runs from Imran Arshad’s first over but regular wickets for the Hurley bowlers kept the run rate in check.
Kuldeep Nothey and Mo Basharat were the pick of the bowlers in a match that saw all the Hurley attack perform well, backed up by some enthusiastic fielding, to keep the run rate below a run a ball.
Riley and Finlay played good innings for Holyport but were not able to cut loose and post a definitive score. Max Ticehurst provided good support down the order to help his side to 119-8 from their allotted 15 eight ball overs.
The Hurley reply started slowly with only nine runs coming from the first two overs for the loss of Abdullah Ali. Naeem Akhtar and George Lewis both played sensibly to get themselves in before cutting loose.
A partnership of 99 for the second wicket in nine overs put Hurley firmly in command. Lewis was in imperious form, smashing 80 from 47 deliveries while Akhtar chipped in with 38 from 31 balls before holing out to Finlay off Max Ticehurst. Scott Taylor joined Lewis to see Hurley past their target with four overs to spare.
