Rooke and Jackson&rsquos resistance earns side share of the spoils

JAMES KNIGHT hit 76 runs as GREYS GREEN held out to deny REFRESHERS victory on Saturday.

JAMES KNIGHT hit 76 runs as GREYS GREEN held out to deny REFRESHERS victory on Saturday.

The hosts did well to confine a strong Refreshers&rsquo batting line-up due to the efforts of Ahmed and Shafqat, backed up by good fielding.

Two wickets in quick succession was poor reward for some good bowling by Ahmed but the class and power of Burrett and Mohindru put fielders under constant pressure, a challenge which was well-met, exemplified by two impressive catches by Shafqat in the deep.

Mohindru reached his century in the final over before tea as Greys Green had restricted their visitors to 183-4.

With bowlers to match their batting line-up, the Refreshers&rsquo total was going to be difficult but, whilst Knight was at the crease, Greys were in with a chance. Losing his opening partner cheaply, Knight was the dominant force in a second-wicket stand of 86 but, when beaten by low bounce, was bowled for 76 and Greys&rsquo chances diminished.

When Cusden departed soon after, hit-wicket for 23, it was left to Dennis and Hoggart to withstand the Refreshers&rsquo push for victory, which they achieved without alarm, with Greys on 130-5 at the close.

Hosts GREYS GREEN frustrated visitors GORING on Sunday as they held out for a share of the spoils.

Batting first Goring opener Steele hit 112 not out assisted by Russell and Baxter. Two good catches by Lubbock, off Rooke&rsquos bowling, brought temporary relief for Greys but the score moved rapidly along and it was only Cross, with 4-33, who slowed things down at the end as the visitors closed on 225-8. The dismissal of openers Knight and Shafqat dented Greys Green&rsquos ambition and wickets fell regularly thereafter, with Wincott the main destroyer with 4-16. At 96-9 Greys Green seemed down and out but stout resistance from Rooke, in tandem with Jackson, frustrated Goring and saw the hosts see out a draw.
