GREYS GREEN ran out winners in their home 30 overs-a-side friendly match with STROLLING OPTIMISTS on Saturday.
The visitors’ opening bowlers immediately hit their lengths and took advantage of the overhead conditions as Slocombe and Neiderheitman both extracted significant swing with the latter removing Hoggart early for 3.
Cusden and Skilleter slowly rebuilt until a late in-swinger removed Skilleter followed by N Holroyd next ball to leave Greys on 29-3.
Dennis joined Cusden at the crease and took the attack to the visitors adding 101 before the next wicket fell. Cusden hit 10 fours in his innings of 55 before he was caught off the bowling of Hayes-Newington. Greys closed their innings on 149-7.
In reply Jenkins proved to be the most threatening of the Greys attack removing Stananought for 6 thanks to a fine catch from Haynes. He followed this up by quickly removing Neiderheitman and Thorne.
The visitors were now rocking but skipper March had other ideas. His innings quickly built and he raced to 38 peppering the point boundary at will but the visitors’ hopes of winning ended when he was bowled through the gate.
Greys Green then faced the prospect of removing the final three batsmen who seemed intent on batting out the innings and initially they struggled to make progress. Jacob Holroyd proved to be the match winner bowling with pace and control that the Optimists tail couldn’t handle. He mopped up the final two wickets in just two overs ending with figures of 2-9.
