A Holyport man has been convicted of murder over a ‘savage and senseless’ attack in which he killed his ex-partner’s boyfriend and injured her.

Jakub Nowicki, 40, of Ascot Road in Holyport, was found guilty by unanimous jury verdict of causing the death of Tomasz Kopec, 46, at Reading Crown Court today.

Nowicki was also found guilty on a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm over the attack in which he also injured his ex-partner Karolina Nowicka, 35, earlier this year.

The killer, who claimed he ‘couldn’t remember’ his attack during a two-week trial, is due to be sentenced on Monday, November 17.

Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Nick Hind, of Thames Valley Police's Major Crime Unit, said: “Throughout this investigation, our thoughts have remained firmly with Tomasz Kopec’s family and friends.

“We hope this conviction brings even a small measure of comfort as they continue to carry the weight of such profound loss following this savage and senseless act of violence.”

Police were dispatched to a house in Grant Avenue Slough at 6.45am on April 25, where two people had been assaulted.

Mr Tomasz Kopec sustained serious injuries in Nowicki’s attack and died in hospital on 27 April.

Ms Nowicka sustained injuries and required minimal medical treatment. She has since made a full recovery.

Nowicki was arrested the same day and was charged the following day (26/4). He pleaded guilty to criminal damage at a hearing before his murder trial.
