THREE international players will be playing on the croquet courts at Phyllis Court on Sunday when the club play host to the  biggest match in their history.

Victory over Cheltenham last month saw Phyllis Court into the semi-finals of the Golf Croquet National Inter-Club Championship where they will host national champions Ashby CC from Leicestershire this weekend.

Former women’s world champion Rachel Rowe and Will Gee, who were both in the England team at this summer’s world team championships, will be playing for the visitors.

The pair are ranked in the top 10 of UK croquet and will be a severe test for the Phyllis Court team, who are headed by their club champion and Ireland international, Charlie von Schmieder, from Checkendon, and fellow UK top 20 player Chris Roberts from Henley.

Both local players have had good seasons so far and are backed up by Helena Fensome from Kingwood Common and Roger Goldring from Winnersh.

The match comprises seven rubbers (six singles matches and one doubles) which are all best of three games.

The action starts at 10.30am, breaks for lunch between 1pm and 2pm, and will conclude at 4.30pm.
