Final heartache for Phyllis Court

PHYLLIS COURT fell at the final hurdle as they lost out in the Murphy Shield final at Cheltenham.

PHYLLIS COURT fell at the final hurdle as they lost out in the Murphy Shield final at Cheltenham.

The Henley-based team, captained by Frances Colman and consisting of Roger Goldring, Mary Gaynor and Raymond Wood, lost out 5-2 to last year’s runners-up Nottingham in the inter club shield competition.

The national competition, which started in 2010 and is sponsored by the Croquet Association, is for teams of four with an aggregate handicap of 12 or more.

To get to the final Phyllis Court won through four rounds with the first match taking place at the Hurlingham Club back in April against Bedfordshire side Leighton-Linslade.

In the next round Phyllis Court defeated Guildford and Godalming before knocking out Hamptworth in the semi-finals.
