Less rain in March

LESS rain fell in Henley during March than usual.

John Sheffield says there was 28.75mm in St Andrew’s Road compared with the long-term average of 48mm.

Despite what seemed like endless rain in January and February, the total amount for the six months from October to March was 625mm, less than in 2000/01 when 644mm fell.

However, the towpath between Henley Bridge and Marsh Lock was flooded for 69 days from Boxing Day to March 7 with the exception of just three days in late January.

Meanwhile, Henley Standard weatherman Denis Gilbert’s wife Suzanne reports that there were 11 air frosts during March and that temperatures ranged from a minimum of -4C to a maximum of 20C on Sunday, March 30.
