AFTER three weeks with virtually no rain, the April showers arrived in plenty.
Allotments and gardens are now flourishing thanks to the downpours but, alas, the ground is now too wet to work a hoe effectively.
The total rainfall in Shiplake measured more than 91mm, almost four inches, twice the average for the month.
Some 25mm of this fell in one 24-hour period spanning April 23 and 24.
Temperatures were slightly above the average for April with a minimum -2C and a maximum 19C, which was reached on two days.
