BARRY WOOD provoked gasps of disbelief with his comments at a public meeting about plans to sell a playing field at Gillotts School for housing.
The former Henley mayor, who supports the scheme, criticised the timing of the meeting, which was held at the school from 6pm.
Mr Wood felt this was too early for many people to attend and told David Gorsuch, chairman of the school’s governors: “I would urge you to hold it again — and this time at 7.30pm, when the man of the house is home.”
The chorus of disapproval had barely died down before he added: “Well, most men work, don’t they?”
I wonder what Mr Wood’s wife Jeni, the current deputy Mayor of Henley and a district councillor, would think?
