LONG-TIME readers may remember the by-lines of former Standard reporters Nick Edmondson and Dan Hearn.

If so, you may be interested to learn the duo are to take part in the Great North Swim in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

They are already in training for the event in Lake Windermere in June and Nick tells me they are pushing themselves to the point of exhaustion.

The boys will have to swim a mile in open water that Nick says is “cooler than Vanilla Ice’s back catalogue” while wearing “alarmingly tight garments”.
