HEARTBREAKERS Cricket Club, who are sponsored by Brakspear, have not just a striking name but kit too.
The players take to the field in pink polo shirts and caps and have matching pads. Yet the 20/20 team, who are based in Harpsden, are virtually unknown locally, according to founder Ben Hancock.
Ben, of Berkshire Road, Henley, says: “We are not well known, partly because we don’t have our own ground. It would be nice to have a bit more support and for a few more people to know about us.”
Many of the players also turn out for Henley and other local clubs.
Ben says: “I set up the team three years ago with some people who didn’t really play cricket so that we could all to play together.
“Lots of them are at university now so it is nice to be able to get together and see each other.” The team’s first game was against Harpsden and ended in defeat but this season they have beaten their rivals once in two games.
So are they any good? “We can be,” says Ben. “It really depends on the standard of the team we are playing against.”
