THE future of Henley’s junior youth club looks decidedly brighter following last week’s report in the Henley Standard that the club would have to close if more adult help was not found. The day after the story was published the club leader, Mrs Caroline Birney, was inundated with phone calls from people and on Tuesday, 11 possible helpers turned up at the club meeting.
The Mayor of Henley, Mr Denis Moriarty, kicked off the charity football match between a team of BBC sports commentators and Reading CID on Sunday. But the organisers afterwards described attendance as “rather disappointing”, and although they will have made a profit when all the totting up is done, it will be less than hoped.
