HENLEY town councillor David Silvester was not the only UKIP supporter receiving flak this week after his claim that the recent floods were the result of the Government’s decision to legalise gay marriage.
When asked for comment on his suspended party colleague, UKIP leader Nigel Farage described Henley as a “small Oxfordshire town”.
This resulted in a backlash on Twitter with South Oxfordshire district councillor William Hall saying: “Clearly he doesn’t have any idea how superbly special Henley is.”
Rev Angie Paterson, who is also a district councillor, said: “Thought he was quite dismissive. Clearly doesn’t care much about Henley.”
