DEE JARVIS was named man of the match at the end of a charity cricket match at the Wormsley Estate between a Brian Lara XI and the Warwickshire county champions of 1994.
Never heard of him? That’s because he is an 11-year-old boy who was plucked out of the crowd by the legendary West Indies batsman to bowl the penultimate over.
Lara’s team, which included England’s Ashes winners Andrew Strauss and Matthew Hoggard, scored 218-7.
Warwickshire were a little behind the run rate when young Dee came on to bowl. He then took a hat-trick, helping to reduce his opponents to 189 all out.
The game raised more than £50,000 for a charity bidding to build an international cricket stadium in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. Lara is a patron of the charity.
