FOUR weeks ago, I wrote about Pte Alfred William King, the first man from Henley to be killed in the First World War.
Now his great nephew, Andy King, has sent me this photograph of Alfred’s younger sister and brother, who lived in Hop Gardens with their widowed mother. He says the picture was taken around 1910 in Hop Gardens, which was then a cul-de-sac as the Abrahams estate didn’t exist.
Andy adds: “The tall girl in the centre is Florence Kate King (born 1901) with her brother George Walter King (born 1898) standing behind her at the back.
“Can any of your readers identify the other five children and the occasion, or were the girls just showing off their well-dressed dolls?”
