18th century bridge joins modern age

WITH all the fuss over its clsoure due to the floods, perhaps it’s no suprise that Sonning Bridge has its own account on Twitter.

The bridge introduced itself to users of the sociaal networking site by announcing: “It’s only taken me 239 years but I am tweeting at last.”

The @sonningbridge biog reads: “I am a bridge. I do my best to help people across the Thames at Sonning and have been doing it with pride since 1775.”

A recent tweet read: “Thanks @Heartfm Berkshire for informing people of my continued closure. I’m sorry, it’s not me, it’s the rain — really.”

The bridge also replied to a commuter complaining about the closure, saying: “That’s a bit harsh, I work hard year in, year out then get the blame when it rains a bit too much.”
