From Henley to Kabul

THEY say it’s a small world and this quartet surely proves it.

All four are serving officers with the British forces in Afghanistan, supporting the NATO mission at the Afghan National Army Officer Academy in Qargha, near Kabul.

But it wasn’t until they found themselves together that they discovered all four are from Henley.

There are about 100 British troops mentoring the academy staff, working alongside troops from Australia, Denmark, New Zealand and Norway.

Major Del Tickner, 46, has been mentoring the logistics and facilities management departments for almost a year, helping to establish the academy infrastructure.
