FORMER Mayor Barry Wood enquired after the whereabouts of Henley’s colourful apple sculpture at a meeting of the town council last week.
The 175lb artwork was given to the town in 2012 by residents of Leichlingen, our German twin town, and used to be on display in Gravel Hill.
Barry asked: “The German friendship apple has spent more time in the dark rather than on display. I wonder if it has been eaten or pulped and turned into scrumpy fritz cider?”
The response was that the apple had been in storage since the stem was damaged and the council was having it repaired. Who said this? Councillor Jeni Wood, Barry’s wife. Couldn’t he have asked her at home?
