Diary

EXPLORING the backwaters around here is a must if you own a small boat or hire one.

The slips of water and islands around our town and the nearby St Patrick’s Stream, River Loddon and especially the Hennerton Backwater are idyllic, other-worldly trips.

You will see plenty of wildlife and pass some outstanding riparian properties, most with fabulous gardens.

My picture shows a relatively new sight for the local explorer — a wonderful lifesize horse sculpture in a garden alongside the backwater. It appears to be made from driftwood.
