WHEN Philippa Annett began going through the paperwork left by her grandfather in Fawley, little did she know it would inspire her first novel.
The Diamond Fund is loosely based on the jottings and memorabilia of Mike Hilpern, who had always been reluctant to discuss the family’s history so many questions were left unanswered.
Philippa, who lives in Yeovil, can remember as a child visiting Mike at Pond End House, where he lived after the Second World War for many years.
She says: “Having coached the crew of Cambridge University in 1912, he remained an enthusiastic oarsman and regularly rowed on the river in Henley.
“I spent much of my childhood visiting Fawley and surrounds, met my husband in Henley and my eldest daughter now lives in Middle Assendon.
