THIS week’s item is provided by a reader, who wishes to remain anonymous.
She says: “This heavy stone, carved with an acanthus leaf, was unearthed from deep beneath a garden in Deanfield Road and is now part of a rockery.
“The houses were built in the Seventies and before that the area was open ground. Could the stone be from a grand Henley house demolished some time ago?
“Deanfield House, also called Paradise House from time to time and associated with Mary Blandy, may be a possibility. Any ideas would be appreciated.”
Please send your theories to me and I will pass them on.
