PERSISTENT and prolonged rain meant December and January were the wettest two consecutive months on record.
Denis Gilbert, the Henley Standard’s amateur weatherman, tells me that last month was the wettest January he has recorded at his station in Shiplake with 167mm of rainfall (and 190mm in Henley). There were only four days when it did not rain.
Temperatures were about one degree above average, continuing the mild winter. There were seven frosts compared with the average for the month of 10.
