Henley Dragons storm back into action with Wraysbury victory

AFTER months of indoor confinement with the Thames stubbornly on red boards almost all winter, meaning the flow is too fast for training to be safe, the Henley Dragons are finally back on the water. The town’s Dragon Boat and Outrigger Canoe team had their first race of the season last weekend, a 7km slog up the river and back in Wraysbury.

Henley Dragons powered into first place, more than two minutes ahead of the second fastest crew. Last weekend saw their outrigger canoe crew bring back a stash of medals from the National Sprint Championships held at Eton Dorney. The mixed crew claimed gold in both the 500 and 1,000m events. The men earnt themselves a couple of bronzes while Henley women added two golds and a silver.

Elsewhere, two members of the club competed in Venice in the spectacular 33km Vogolonga river marathon. With four newly trained coaches Henley Dragons is welcoming new members. Anyone interested in joining the club should email henleydragons@outlook.com for further details.
