THE 12 crews competing in the second round of the Henley Winter Series on Sunday began by assembling at the start line for two minutes’ silence to commemorate Remembrance Day.
The race was won by Rafters with second place being taken by Wraysbury and Henley taking third spot.
For this race the usual crews were joined by three charity crews — Berkshire Vision, UKTV Challengers and Bear Force 1.
Berkshire Vision, a Reading-based charity providing services, advice and support to visually impaired people entered a crew of sighted, partially sighted and blind competitors who took part in the race for the first time finishing in a creditable time of 45 minutes. UKTV Challengers have raised more than £41,000 this year for their chosen charity, GIST support UK. GIST is a rare type of cancer affecting the stomach and intestines, with around 900 new cases being identified each year
UKTV’s theme for this year’s challenges has been the elements, earth, wind, fire and water, the water challenge being to participate in a dragon boat race. Sunday’s event raised £4,000 towards their annual total, their 10 man crew completing the course in 46 minutes.
Bear Force 1 were flying the flag for Help for Heroes and finished in 38 minutes, just two minutes behind the regular crews.
