‘This is an amazing school, I love it here’

“THIS is an amazing school! I feel so independent here. I love it!”

“THIS is an amazing school! I feel so independent here. I love it!”

So spoke a year seven student at the end of her first full week as a new pupil at Langtree School.

Staff and students went home last Friday with a great sense of satisfaction and pride at how well the start of term had gone and how enjoyable it had actually been to return to school.

Headteacher Rick Holroyd summed it up when he said: “It is always a great pleasure to come back to the start of term in September and to welcome a new cohort of students in to the school.

“Our new year seven students are such a lovely bunch, and are such a pleasure to work with, that the return to work has been even more enjoyable.

“Such a great start, following our record-breaking GCSE examination results in the summer, has given us all a real sense of optimism for the year ahead. William Shakespeare once wrote that ‘If all the year were playing holidays, to sport would be as tedious as to work.’

“Our new students have illustrated the truth in this — they have had a great holiday but have come back to school with great excitement, clearly intending to work very hard in order to earn the right to enjoy the next holiday when it comes around.”

The new students have been voting with their feet to show their enthusiasm for their new school.

More than 50 attended the first session of after-school drama club last week, many are busily preparing pieces of writing and artefacts for the celebration of Roald Dahl’s life soon to be held in the library, and many more have already attended practices in hockey, football and joined up for the very popular Friday Gym Club.
