Pupils and staff dress up as favourite literary characters

A WRITER of children’s books made a special visit to pupils in Peppard who won a national competition inspired by his stories.

Greys Class from Peppard Primary School were the winners of a World Book Day competition to produce a piece of art based on their favourite story from James Mayhew’s Katie series.

Their prize was a visit from Mr Mayhew, who held an art workshop for the children on Thursday.

His books follow character Katie on adventures as she is transported inside famous paintings.

The five to seven year olds made a video where they acted out scenes inspired by three artworks - Seurat’s Bathers at Asnières, Edgar Degas’ ballerina paintings and The Umbrellas by Pierre-Auguste Renoir - within a large, gold frame to create the impression the paintings were coming to life.
