A NEW multi-use games area has opened at Sonning Common Primary School.
The £80,000 facility will enable pupils to play five-a-side football, basketball, netball and, for the first time, tennis.
The school’s Parent Teacher Association took three years to raise the funds with fairs and other events.Penny Snowden, who was a member of the association when the project began, cut the ribbon at the official opening on Monday.
She said: “It is just lovely to see the games area here. The school’s ethos is very sporty so to be able to do something like this is fantastic.” The games area, which has multi-coloured lines painted on the surface for each sport, was formerly an area of grass.
Mrs Snowden said: “I really hope that the school will be able to use it all year round, which was the main objective. One of the challenges of grass is that it is virtually impossible to use in the winter, so this is marvellous.”
