Games galore at St Mary’s

ST MARY’s offers a wide variety of sporting opportunities. Games lessons are devoted to practising technical ability and competitive team

ST MARY’s offers a wide variety of sporting opportunities. Games lessons are devoted to practising technical ability and competitive team games. With the use of our school mini-buses, all children in year two and above take part in their games lessons off-site at various local venues, whilst the younger children from nursery to year one have their lessons at St Mary’s. The school has regular access to a floodlit all-weather pitch, tennis courts and athletics pitch and also an indoor training pool for weekly swimming for the infants. The school also has links with Shiplake College to enable the children in years five and six to get involved in rowing lessons during the summer term. The school hall is well equipped with wall bars, ropes and free standing gymnastic equipment. Kindergarten children have gymnastic lessons with activities designed to develop body awareness and balance. and co-ordination. From Year 2, the children also get the opportunity to regularly take part in matches against other schools. As well as three Games lessons each week which can include tag rugby, hockey, football, netball, handball, basketball, cricket and rounders, there are also a variety of sporting clubs on offer for the children. This clubs vary each term and can include Football, Circuit-training, Fencing, Multi-skills, Netball, Golf and Gymnastics.
