BRENDAN PAVEY, head of the sixth form at Shiplake College, is leaving to become headmaster of Long Close School in Slough.
Mr Pavey arrived at the school as head of geography 10 years ago and five years ago became a boarding housemaster. He was also a cricket and rugby coach.
Headmaster Gregg Davies said: “He demonstrated a real talent for pastoral care and helping pupils to achieve their potential.”
David Brazier, the retiring Long Close headmaster, whose son Peter was a boarder at Shiplake, said: “Brendan has driven up academic standards while ensuring that the sixth-formers make the most of all the cultural, social and sporting opportunities on offer.”
Mr Pavey will start at Long Close, also an independent school, in September.
In March, Derek Mackey, Shiplake College’s director of studies, was appointed headmaster of the British International School in Kuala Lumpur.
