Mathematics consultant aims to improve pupils' attainment

PERENA Polius-Curran is a mathematics consultant who improves the mathematical experience of students, teachers and parents to bring about higher attainment in the subject.

In 2016 the A* to A grade attainment in her class increased from seven per cent at the start of year 11 to 57 per cent of the students achieving an A* to A grade in their GCSE mathematics examination.

Across the department there was an increase of 1.6 per cent to 16.2 per cent of students achieving an A* to A grade. In addition the A* to C grade attainment increased from 40.4 per cent to 48.6 per cent.

As acting head of department Perena has transformed a mathematics department, implementing a new scheme of work and assessment model to cater for the new GCSE and brought about stability of staff, making the department more appealing to prospective heads of department.

This has been the case with the recent appointment of a permanent head of mathematics.

Perena is also a fully accredited and certified hypnotherapist and psychotherapist who offers programmes to develop mental wellbeing whilst enhancing learning.

The aim is to bring about holistic development of the individual so that the child becomes a confident independent learner.

They are then in a position to make more informed choices about their future, having made the necessary gains towards achieving their goals. For more information, email, call 07946 966027 or visit the website
