Children in year 4 at Caversham Prep School have been studying all things Victorian.
The highlight of the week was Charlie Price bringing in his great grandfather Roy Knowles’s steam engine.
The pupils took the model into the garden and Charlie demonstrated how it worked, very carefully filling the water tank, lighting the coal and checking the belts.
The children didn’t have to wait very long before they saw the steam, the whistle blew and the belts started to turn. Year 4 teacher Amanda Grimes said: “The children were fascinated to see how the model steam engine worked. It really brought to life the engineering legacy that the Victorians left us.”
