Lock shut for repairs

THREE locks on the River Thames in the Henley area will be closed for refurbishment next month.

Shiplake, Marsh and Hambleden locks will be shut from October 30 to March 31 next year.

The work will involve upgrading the hydraulic control system.

The Environment Agency says this is part of an £8 million annual programme of essential works to maintain key navigation structures along the non-tidal Thames.

Other major work will include the redesign and refurbishment of the Shiplake Lock sewage pump-out facility but this is not expected to have an impact on navigation of the river.

Work is continuing with the replacement of the small and large radial gates, the associated walkway and the installation of a fish pass at Benson weir.
