Literary lovers pick up record £9,000 tickets

THE 10th Henley Literary Festival has seen a record number of bookings in the first week

THE 10th Henley Literary Festival has seen a record number of bookings in the first week of general sale.

Almost 9,000 tickets have been sold so far for the September 26 to October 2 festival, with Victoria Hislop, Jenni Murray, Michael Heseltine and Gyles Brandreth among the first to sell out.

Tickets remain available for more than 130 events for adults and children, including Miriam Gonzalez, Ben Miller, Jo Malone, Judith Kerr and Nadiya Hussain.

Visitors from across the county — including Birmingham, Brighton, Cardiff, Dorset and Newcastle — have bought tickets for the week-long extravaganza.

Former Henley MP Lord Heseltine will make an exclusive appearance and there will be opening and closing night events with Robert Harris and Jeremy Paxman.

Festival programming director Tom Ryan said: “We’re delighted that as well as a strong local showing we are giving people a reason to visit Henley this September and make the most of everything the town has to offer.”
