A big thank-you for supporting the show

I WELCOME everyone to celebrate the 125th Henley Show.

I WELCOME everyone to celebrate the 125th Henley Show.

The annual show, sheep dog trial and ploughing match organised by the Henley and District Agricultural Association would never take place without the large number of volunteers who serve on the main committee and Simon Beddows and his agricultural committee.

I would like to thank them all for the massive amount of time and effort they put in. Quite simply, without these people none of these events would be possible.

At the same time I would like to thank our professional staff, Jo Taylor, our full-time association and show manager, and John Williams, our showground contractor.

The association is a charity with a remit to “promote the growing and improvement of crops and livestock” in the Henley area.

I am pleased to report that following a successful financial year in 2015, we were able to donate £5,000 to various local causes. To that end I thank everyone who attends the show and our members and sponsors because without you we could never achieve our charitable aims.

Richard Ovey took over as our president from Barrie Haigh at the annual meeting in March. He and his wife Gillian entertained members to a quite splendid party at Hernes in June.

The sheepdog trial held on the showground in June was a resounding success.

Following the show our last event will be the ploughing match to be held at Sonning Eye on Sunday, October 2.

The benefits of membership of the association are massive and very worthwhile, so anyone who is not a member and wishes to join should call Jo Taylor on (01491) 413619 or email jo@thehenleyshow.co.uk
