Food fair in aid of village hall

THE annual festive food fair at Goring village hall raised £1,200 towards the upkeep of the building.

More than 500 people attended the event, where there were stalls selling turkeys, cakes, puddings and mince pies, cheeses, confectionery, pickles and preserves, vegetables and wines.

There was also a prize raffle and Christmas wreath-making demonstration.

Refreshments were on offer all day and BumbleBee Cider and Sole Lune Pizza, which are both based in Goring, were selling their produce on the forecourt outside.

The proceeds will replenish the hall’s funds after the trustees spent almost £40,000 refurbishing the clock tower earlier this year.

Organiser Sally Wicks said: “We enjoyed a full complement of stallholders who all did exceptionally well and had quite a few new attractions, so we think it was very successful. Everyone who attended enjoyed themselves and it was very busy.”

Since 2012 the hall has been undergoing a programme of refurbishment, including the construction of a new “garden room” at the rear, the installation of double glazing and LED lighting and the redecoration of the main interior.

Funds for improvements to the stage and backstage area will be raised at a barn dance on February 11 and a murder mystery evening on March 11.
