PUPILS in Year 6 at Goring Primary School told stories to the younger children.

The reception and year 1 children were split into groups and listened to stories including the Gruffalo,Three Little Pigs, Jack and the Beanstalk and the Percy the Park Keeper.

Each group could play with an interactive scene, props and puppets which were made teaching assistant Lisa Hewlett to re-enact the stories.

All the pupils wore casual dress, animal-themed onesies or costumes including dragons, dinosaurs, Super Mario and Chewbacca from Star Wars.

Each year group wrote a chapter of a story about a visit to an alien planet which was put together and read out in the afternoon.

The pupils also took part in a sponsored challenge organised by the parent-teacher association in which they filmed themselves reading to pets, wearing silly hats and putting on silly voices

At morning assembly deputy headteacher Hannah Grey read Can You Hear Me, Granddad? by Pat Thomson, her favourite story as a child.

She said: “It has been such a great day. The children have loved reading stories and, just as importantly, telling them, which helps inspire them to write their own.”
