‘Commoners’ win village quiz title

‘Commoners’ win village quiz title

MORE than 100 people took part in a charity quiz night at Shiplake memorial hall.

Fifteen teams competed in the quiz, which comprised nine rounds of questions and a “marathon challenge”, in which they had to identify the products for 25 advertising slogans.

The question master was Mark Manson and each team had a joker card to play for double points on a round.

The winners were the Commoners (above), who were presented with a trophy and chose where the proceeds of the event should be donated from a list of 10 local charities.

They decided to split the money between Sue Ryder and an appeal for cyberknife treatment for Charlie Ilsley, 11, from Emmer Green, who is battling cancer.

The Brick Walls team won a chocolate prize for the marathon challenge by corretly identifying 24 out of the 25 products.

There was also a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses including the Flowing Spring and Baskerville pubs, Shiplake Butchers and Brambles Florist.

Bob Partridge, chairman of trustees of the hall, said: “The quiz night was a most successful community event and we hope to hold more in the future. We had an amazing response and couldn’t actually accommodate all the teams that wanted to enter.”

The next event at the hall will be a jazz night on Sunday, June 9.
