Buddies begin preparing town for competition judges

HENLEY’S Gardening Buddies were out and about this week helping to get the town ready for the Britain in Bloom judges.

Volunteers carried out their first tidy-up of the year at the Mill Meadows sensory garden, which was left looking a mess after the floods.

The Buddies will hold another 10 sessions before June and would welcome help from any keen gardeners.

Organiser and town councillor Elizabeth Hodgkin said: “The whole idea of the Gardening Buddies is to get as many people as possible involved. Anyone is welcome to join and can come along whenever they want.” Members of the group will be taking part in Henley in Bloom’s Hit Litter event tomorrow (Saturday).

The annual litter-pick is the first major initiative as the town gears up for the national Britain in Bloom competition, supported by a new Henley Standard campaign called Going for Gold. Volunteers are asked to meet at Christ Church in Reading Road at 10am for a 10.30am start. They will be given equipment and a map of the area they will be tidying.
