A HENLEY headmaster will be joining a host of other musicians to play at the very first Valley Rock Festival in Shiplake next weekend.
Tim Coulson, headmaster of Valley Road Primary School, has played guitar in bands since his student days but this time round he will be entertaining the crowds with swing and jazz from the Twenties and Thirties with his newly-formed jazz trio.
The festival — which features live music on two stages, a beer tent, cocktail bar and hog roast — has been organised in order to raise funds for a new music room at the school.
Mr Coulson, 50, said: “I’ve played in other bands but with my job it’s a bit more difficult to fit it in. I still play with my ex-wife Hilary Palmer, who’s a jazz singer, and I still play with a local folk band Walk the Plank, and it’s great fun. For years I played in a band called Goodbye Jane — I was so successful that I’m still a teacher! But I love it.
“Playing music is really important in our school because of the pleasure you get out of it.”
