REGATTA RADIO has a new major sponsor. Henley Capital Management has pledged to fund the pop-up station for this year’s royal regatta, which starts on Wednesday.
Regatta Radio chairman Peter McConnell said: “We are delighted that Henley Capital Management is our new title partner. It is understands what we try to achieve every year and believes that radio can really add value to the regatta experience.
“It has already given valuable support and is full of ideas to help us enhance and improve Regatta Radio’s broadcasting.” Jon White, a partner in the firm, who lives in Fawley, said: “Being sponsors gets us involved with the regatta and the community and that’s what we wanted.”
The station was on the verge of closing earlier this year when Invesco Perpetual, its former major sponsor, pulled out. An appeal was launched to raise the £25,000 needed to keep it running. A fund-raising dinner at Leander Club attended by about 100 supporters raised more than £9,000 while online donations reached £1,820.
Regatta Radio has covered every race since 2009. It broadcasts on 87.7FM and is streamed live over the internet.
