CHRISTINE SORSBIE is the new president of Wargrave and Shiplake Regatta, which takes place next month.
She has been attending the annual event for more than 60 years as a competitor and spectator.
Ms Sorsbie, who has a home in Shiplake, will present the prizes at this year’s regatta, which will take place on Friday and Saturday, August 8 and 9.
There will be 400 races on a 400-yard stretch of the river and thousands of people are expected the watch the action from the bank, where there will be food and drink stalls. The regatta is open to everyone and participants do not have to be a member of a boat club or own their own boat. No prior experience is needed as equipment and training are provided.
The third annual Wargrave and Shiplake open-water swim will be held before the regatta at 6.30am on August 8. Competitors swim 1km from the George and Dragon pub in Wargrave to the railway bridge and back, either once or twice.
