Trials mark 20 years

A RECORD number of competitors took part in the 20th Henley Sheepdog Trials on Sunday.

Fifty-four dogs, from as far afield as the Isle of Wight, completed the course at the Henley Showground in Hambleden, ranging from novices to members of the British National Team.

First prize went to Matt Watson with Morse, from Yorkshire, who won the Perpetual Rose Bowl trophy.

Simon Beddows, agricultural chairman of the Henley and District Agricultural Association, which runs the trials, presented a cup and prize cards to the winners. The judge was Alan Brookes and the sheep came from Mill End Farm in Hambleden.

Jo Taylor, association and show manager, said: “The lovely weather brought a good crowd on Sunday. The event has grown in popularity over the past few years as interest in the countryside and countryside pursuits grows. The event is going from strength to strength.”
