Top dog? Forest

I AM entering my very special, three-year-old husky Forest for Henley’s Top Dog because he is so very special and so lucky to still be with us.

I rescued him as a one-year-old when his owners, who lived in a flat, couldn’t look after him or handle all the destruction he caused. (I think it was just because he wasn’t a cute little puppy anymore and huskies demand a lot of exercise and special handling.”

Anyway, he settled in after escaping from the garden several times and once I had realised that teaching a husky recall is quite a mission.

Many hours were spent waiting around in woods and countryside while he decided to go awol while following a scent. We became well known in the area as a crazy lady looking for her husky. Forest then became part of the gang at the stables where I kept my horse. He was much appreciated as the “rat catcher” and followed us out on the hacks.

Unfortunately, one day he decided to go running off in the orchards. After searching for a couple of hours, I finally heard the dreaded noise of a freight train horn and screeching brakes, then a yelp.
