Touching, funny, brave and interesting...

ORGANISERS are “thrilled” after the eighth Henley Literary Festival broke attendance records for the second year in a row.

More than 16,000 tickets were sold for the week-long event, which ended on Sunday, about 2,000 more than in 2013.

This year’s festival comprised 150 talks, 20 more than last year, and speakers included Paddy Ashdown, Princess Michael of Kent, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Timothy Spall, Mark Kermode, Geoffrey Boycott, Dawn O’Porter, Sir Roger Bannister, Baroness Trumpington, Liam Fox, Richard Littlejohn, Gareth Thomas, Nicholas Parsons and Katy Wix.

There were also free events and special performances for children.

Among the politicians speaking were Lord Owen and Baroness Trumpington, who recreated the famous “V-sign” she gave to Lord King in the House of Lords in 2011 during her talk at the Christ Church Centre.
