Lumley to present festival’s Bond gala

JOANNA LUMLEY is to appear at this year’s Henley Festival.

JOANNA LUMLEY is to appear at this year’s Henley Festival.

The actress will present Shaken and Stirred — The Music of James Bond, a gala evening on Saturday, July 13.

The announcement of her appearance was made on Tuesday as festival tickets went on general sale.

This will feature the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra recreating some of the best-known film scores and theme-songs in movie history, including Diamonds Are Forever, Goldfinger, Live And Let Die and Skyfall.

The show will also feature a performance by Kristina Rihanoff and Robin Windsor, from BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, and principal stars of hit West End musicals.

Lumley, who appeared in the sixth James Bond film, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, with George Lazenby in 1969, said: “The very words ‘James Bond’ bring a rush of excitement to my heart.

“Even though it was 45 years ago, even though I really only had two lines in the film, I am as proud of being a Bond girl as of anything else in my career. I can’t wait for this spectacular Bond night on the river. As the evening progresses, I shall of course be auditioning, fairly subtly, for a future role in another of these sensational films — and it need only be two lines.”

The other festival headliners are the Beach Boys, Jamie Cullum, Madness and Paloma Faith while other acts to appear will include TV’s Barry Cryer and Alexander Armstrong, comedian Richard Hall and classical pianist Oliver Poole.

The festival runs from Wednesday, July 10 to Sunday 14. Tickets cost from £65 and are on sale at www.henley-festival.co.uk or call the box office on (01491) 843404.
