BOUNDING into its fourth year, Henley’s canine competition is back and promises to be as funny, heart-warming and entertaining as ever.

There are £1,700 worth of prizes to be won in this year’s contest, which is organised in association with Naughty Mutt Nice, Henley’s dog shop.

To be in with a chance of winning the coveted title of Henley’s Top Dog — plus a plethora of fantastic goodies — all you have to do is enter one of our three barkingly brilliant categories:

Don’t Call Me A Mutt

Hybrid dogs are hot in H.O.T. — golden doodles, pugshires, schnoodles, there are so many wonderful new breeds, all with such unique personalities. To enter this category and be in with a chance of winning some fantastic prizes, please send us a good quality photo of your dog, plus 200 words explaining why your “mutt” is the best hybrid in Henley.

Dog Tails

Your woofer is wonderful —you know that — and now you need to tell us why. Maybe your dog has done something exceptionally brave, or they have experienced something heartbreaking but pulled through nonetheless. Or maybe you have a hilarious anecdote about your pooch that you would love to share. To be in with a chance of winning some fantastic prizes, please send us a good quality photo, plus your dog’s tale in 200 words.

May The Paws Be With You

Last year saw Hoshi the shiba inu scoop first place as Fox in Socks. Could your creativity put your dog in the top spot this year? Put on your thinking caps and dress your dog to become a famous character from your favourite book, film or TV show. To be in with a chance of winning, please send us a good quality photo together with a short description.

How to enter

You can send your entries by post or by email.

To be in with a chance of winning, all you have to do is send us your story and photo of your dog, together with your name, address and daytime telephone number, to: Top Dog competition 2013, Henley Standard, Caxton House, 1 Station Road, Henley, RG4 1AR or email your entry to topdog@henleystandard.co.uk or to info@naughtymuttnice.com

The competition closing date is Friday, July 12.

The winning entries and runners-up will be chosen by the Top Dog judges, Henley Standard editor Simon Bradshaw, Naughty Mutt Nice proprietor Aspen Weatherburn, Erik D’Arcy-Donnelly of the Henley Veterinary Centre and Mayor-elect Stefan Gawrysiak.

The awards ceremony will be held in the Balfour Room at Hotel du Vin in New Street, Henley, on Thursday, August 22.

All dog owners will be welcome at the ceremony as well as any socialised and well-behaved four-legged friends who fancy popping along. The ceremony will begin at 7pm.

A dog can be entered in only one of the three categories.

The prizes are non-refundable and there is no cash alternative. All prizes must be claimed by November 1.
