QUALIFYING races for this year’s Henley Royal Regatta takes place today (Friday). A total of 257 crews and scullers will compete for 88 places during four hours of racing.
The first race is the Goblets, which will start at 4pm. Chris Boddy and Dave Read, of Leander Club, and Tom Hope, of Upper Thames RC, are among the nine scullers vying for two places in the Diamond Sculls at 4.05pm.
In the Wyfold Cup, Upper Thames is fielding three crews in group three at 4.53pm. The fastest 14 crews from the 37 competing across three groups will qualify. Upper Thames has two crews in group three of the Thames Cup at 5.21pm. The fastest 12 crews from 35 competing across three groups will qualify.
The double sculls cup features Will Hoodless and Will King, from Upper Thames, at 6.30pm. The fastest four crews will qualify from the six competing.
Henley Rowing Club features in the first of three groups of the Fawley Cup, competing at 6.50pm. Thirteen crews will qualify from the 46 competing. Reading Blue Coat School in Sonning will feature in group three and the Oratory School in Woodcote in group four of the Temple Cup. They will race at 7.35pm and 7.40pm respectively. Fifteen crews will qualify from the 45 crews competing across the five groups.
