THE full programme for this year’s Henley Literary Festival has been revealed ahead of next week’s general sale — with James Cracknell, Melvyn Bragg, Rachel Johnson and Barry Cryer among the latest names.
This year’s festival takes place from September 30 to October 6, with tickets going on general sale next Wednesday, July 31.
James Cracknell becomes the second gold-winning Olympic rower on this year’s line-up, joining Katherine Grainger. He will discuss the aftermath of a life-threatening accident, along with his wife, TV host Beverly Turner.
Festival favourites Melvyn Bragg, Rachel Johnson and Craig Brown all return to the Kenton after sell-out events in previous years. Book Club Friday brings together some of the UK’s best-loved novelists, including Lisa Jewell, Rachel Joyce, Jojo Moyes and Jane Thynne. Comedy legend Barry Cryer, who recently attracted a standing-room-only crowd at the Henley Festival, makes his literary festival debut as does his former writing partner, Reginald Perrin creator David Nobbs.
“We’ve some fantastic stories this year, such as those of Victorian elephant sensation Jumbo, JFK’s official photographer and Second World War infantryman Vic Gregg, still doing events at 95,” said festival director Sue Ryan.
Tickets go on sale online at www.henleyliteraryfestival.co.uk or on 0118 972 4700. (Monday to Friday, 10am-2pm) from Wednesday July 31st. There will also be a live box office and information desk in Henley Market Place on Saturday August 3rd. The programme is available online and in the Bell Bookshop and other outlets.
